Fabrizio Romano reports 'very detailed' manager is super eager to join Chelsea

Chelsea are in the process of hiring their next head coach after Mauricio Pochettino left by mutual consent just 48 hours after the final day of the Premier League season.

The Blues supporters went through a period of watching managers frequently come and go under the previous owners. That pattern is continuing so far with this ownership group, too.

There’s been a lot of rumours in the media across the last few days regarding Chelsea’s managerial search.

Apparently, one individual really wants the position at Stamford Bridge.

Manager wants Chelsea job

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is really eager to become the new Chelsea head coach.

The 44-year-old Foxes coach fancies moving to west London to take on what would be the biggest job of his career so far.

Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing: “I’m receiving many questions about Enzo Maresca guys, and I can confirm that Maresca is super open and super keen on joining Chelsea. So it’s a concrete possibility.”

Maresca, who led Leicester to promotion this season as Championship title winners, plays a possession-based style of football that must have been influenced from his time as an assistant at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

The Sun reported on Friday that Chelsea and Maresca had sat down for early talks about the vacant manager’s role. The Leicester man was ‘encouraged by discussions, but there’s still no favourite amid interest in Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Brentford’s Thomas Frank as well.

Enzo Maresca would imprint brand on Chelsea

There’s several negatives when it comes to Blues interest in Maresca, largely his inexperience and the fact he’s never managed in the Premier League before.

However, the last year at the King Power Stadium proves he’s got a philosophy and he can coach a group of players to change. Leicester went from a counter-attacking team to pass masters in such a short space of time under him.

Foxes centre-back Conor Coady previously told BBC Sport last September that Maresca is “very detailed” as a manager in everything he does. You can see that with how Leicester played over the course of a season.

It’s a fair shout for those Chelsea supporters that want a safer and more experienced individual to follow Pochettino. Maresca would be quite an intriguing and ambitious appointment, though.
