Dre Taylor, an American entrepreneur, has made a significant mark in Ghana’s flourishing construction industry by embarking on an ambitious project to build 105 luxury homes. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Taylor’s life journey was shaped by the harsh realities of urban life, including crime and violence. In search of a better life, his family moved to a safer area, but the challenges of his past remained etched in his mind.
After trying his hand in various professions—from college football to running a nonprofit focused on sustainable agriculture—Taylor visited Ghana in 2019. The experience profoundly changed his perspective, leading him to question his life back in the U.S. He found a welcoming community and an environment where he felt a sense of freedom not experienced before. This realization prompted him to relocate permanently to Ghana.
Upon settling in, Taylor recognized a growing demand for housing among expatriates visiting and relocating to the country. He began facilitating tours from the U.S. to Ghana, eventually deciding to invest in real estate himself. Taylor is currently constructing luxury homes in Abriosumasi, utilizing innovative materials like earth bricks that promote energy efficiency, offering a unique living experience compared to traditional designs.
Employing approximately 60 local workers, Taylor emphasizes collaboration and community engagement in his projects. He aims to create a holistic living environment, incorporating amenities such as a rooftop pool and space for local businesses. With plans for additional developments, including condominiums and community facilities, Taylor is committed to fostering a sustainable and vibrant community in Ghana.
As the real estate market in Ghana continues to thrive, Taylor’s journey reflects the potential for investment and personal fulfillment in a country rich in opportunities. His story resonates with many in the diaspora, encouraging them to explore their roots and consider the benefits of investing in Africa.
