Cole Palmer shares what he did straight after winning Premier League Young Player of the Season award

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea star Cole Palmer won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award for the 2023/24 campaign.

Cole Palmer was excellent for Chelsea following his move from Manchester City last summer.

In 33 Premier League appearances for the Blues, he scored 22 goals and set up another 11.

No player came up with more goal contributions than the attacker, showing just how good he was this season.

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier trained with Palmer for the first time last week while on England duty and has been left surprised by the 22-year-old’s quality.

Cole Palmer on his Premier League Young Player of the Season award

Understandably, Palmer was delighted about being named the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season.

And he could not help but share that delight with his parents, ringing them up straight after he collected the award.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website about it, the Englishman said: “It was an amazing feeling to win such a prestigious award. Many great young players have won it, so to win it myself was such a really good feeling.

“I rang my mum and dad straight away. They were buzzing. Obviously, from last season it was a big decision to come here, not just for me, but for my family as well and thankfully it has paid off.”

Should Cole Palmer also have won Premier League Player of the Season?

Palmer’s former City teammate Phil Foden claimed the Premier League Player of the Season award.

However, you could have easily made a case for Palmer, who was also in contention for the accolade.

He scored more goals and recorded more assists than the 24-year-old playing in an inferior team.

Had Chelsea been in the title race this season, there is a good chance that Palmer would have beaten Foden to the award. Foden obviously got more of the spotlight and was playing in way more meaningful games than Palmer, who was helping Chelsea scrap for sixth place.

If you can overlook that, then Palmer had the better campaign and perhaps should have claimed the Player of the Season award. Foden, though, remains a worthy winner, of course.
