“Chelsea Youngster Speaks of ‘Surreal’ Experience After Scooping End of Season Award”

Alfie Gilchrist has described winning Chelsea Men’s Academy Player of the Year as a “surreal” experience and something he’s very proud of.

Gilchrist has had a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge, having graduated from the academy to a fully fledged member of the first team squad.

The 20-year-old started the campaign playing for the under-21s, before making his debut for the Blues against Crystal Palace just after Christmas.

There’s been so many brilliant moments for the academy graduate this season, and he made his first start for the club against Preston in the FA Cup in January.

Gilchrist scored his first goal for the Blues in the 6-0 win against Everton last month and you could see how much it meant to him by his celebrations, with the fans delighted for one of their own.

Gilchrist has had a breakthrough season at Chelsea.
Gilchrist has shown his versatility by playing at both right back and centre back ,and has made 17 appearances for the Blues this campaign.
His breakthrough year was rightly rewarded at the club’s end of season awards on Tuesday evening as he took home the Chelsea Men’s Academy Player of the Year award.

“It’s a surreal moment for me really”, he told Chelsea’s official website.

“Coming from the academy, these are the awards that you look at.

“When people get them in the academy you know it’s a big achievement so to get it myself, I’m very proud.

“My family and friends are delighted and equally proud as well, it’s a special moment.”
