Chelsea now close to agreeing deal to sign £19m youngster, personal terms still need to be sorted

Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign a young attacker from a Premier League club.

Now that the summer transfer window is well underway, there’s plenty of twists and turns when it comes to new signings.

For example, Crystal Palace star Michael Olise has been heavily linked with a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge this summer. The Athletic claims that Chelsea have pulled out of the deal for Palace winger Olise due to financial reasons, though.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via X on Saturday that Chelsea are still planning to sign a new winger and new striker in this window.

Now, it’s been suggested elsewhere that the Blues are close to agreeing a deal for an English youngster.

Chelsea close to agreement with Aston Villa for their player

The Athletic reports this weekend that Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Omari Kellyman.

It is understood that the Premier League teams are expected to agree a deal worth around £19m for the young attacker.

The report adds that Kellyman, 18, will still need to undergo a medical and agree personal terms with the Blues before a move to Stamford Bridge can happen.

This deal does bring back memories to when Chelsea signed Carney Chukwuemeka in a £20m deal (Sky Sports) deal from Aston Villa back in 2022.

Who is Omari Kellyman?
So, Kellyman is the latest in a long line of young talents to be linked with Chelsea.

The versatile forward has been at Villa Park since 2022 when he joined them from Derby County.

He made his first-team breakthrough last season, playing six senior games for Unai Emery’s Villa team. This included three appearances in European football, too.

On top of that, Kellyman seven goals in 11 matches for Villa’s Under-21s side.

Like most youngsters, he’s still working out his best position on the pitch. He can play as a striker, No 10 or winger.

It’ll be interesting to see what Chelsea supporters think about potentially yet another sizeable investment in a young player who’s for the future.
