It emerged yesterday that Chelsea were getting close to making their first big sale of the transfer window for a big fee.
It has been claimed that they are close to parting ways with Ian Maatsen, after he struggled to break into the first team setup at Stamford Bridge last season.
Instead, he made his way to Borussia Dortmund for half of the campaign, which ended up with him being able to start in the Champions League final.
Despite the fact there has not been unwavering confidence in either Ben Chilwell or Marc Cucurella, it has been pretty clear that the Dutchman has been on the list to be sold.
Last night it became clear that a deal had been agreed between the Blues and Aston Villa for him to move.
Chelsea to recieve £37.5m for Maatsen
Romano added on Twitter late last night that the fee they were receiving was actually higher than what they were asking for in a release clause with Dortmund.
He said: “The agreement between Aston Villa and Chelsea for Ian Maatsen is for £37.5m total fee.
“One player to be included in discussions to join Chelsea from Villa will be formally in separated deal. Final round of talks soon for personal terms details, then… here we go.”
The fee coming in could be the domino that falls to allow them to complete their own big money transfers.
Chelsea desperate for Michael Olise
The reported top target at this stage is Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, with them reportedly doing everything they can to convince him to join.
With all the top sides they are fighting for his signature, his current club have taken another step towards keeping him by offering an improved contract.
It remains to be seen if the Blues can convince the Frenchman to make the move across London, however it is known that the club believe he would be the perfect player to bring in and play alongside Cole Palmer.
